Despite millions of visitors each year, Cinque Terre has almost no hostels or budget stays. It can be hard to find something there that doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars a night, so to take away the stress I’ve come up with a list of the best cheap accomodation in the area.
If you’re low on time, here are my top 3 stays in a snapshot!
1. Ostello Tramonti: Best Backpacker Hostel

Ostello Tramonti is one of the only hostels in the area, and the most popular pick for backpackers. The hostel is cute and cozy, and the town its located in, Biassa, is incredibly charming.
Though it’s not right on Cinque Terre’s coastline, it’s by far the cheapest accomodation you’ll find in the area. It’s about a 30 minute commute by bus or train to Cinque Terre from the hostel, which is completely doable for the amazing price.
And to top it off from many of the hostels wide windows, you have beautiful views of the colourful buildings and mountains, all the way over to the large bustling town of La Spezia.
The only thing to be said about this hostel, is that you can’t bring your own food. I didn’t realise that when I booked it, and it definitely made life a little harder being unprepared. Note that the hostel does serve its own delicious food, and even though It adds to the price, the hostel is incredibly cheap in the beginning!

Are you there thinking, wait, this isn’t a hostel? You’re right, it’s not. It’s a private room in a guesthouse with a shared balcony, panoramic views the ocean and coastline, and it’s walking distance from the beach. But the crazy thing is… It costs the same as a hostel dorm.
Corniglia Dreams has a shared living space and balcony, meaning you can still meet and socialise with people while having the privacy of your own room. This is great for both solo travellers who like their space, couples or friends.
The location is amazing, being right in the UNESCO area, 150m from Corniglia Beach and 1km from the train station that links every town.
3. Ostello Ninin De Ma’: Cheapest Hostel

- Beautiful location

Like many others, Ostello Ninin De Ma’ is not located right in the middle of Cinque Terre, rather a 15 minute train ride away in the neighbouring seaside town of Framura. Framura is less crowded, less expensive, and close enough to Cinque Terres famous towns to make the commute worth it.
From the hostel, you have beautiful views over the valley, including the colourful little town, sprawling coastline, ocean, and green hills that roll into the distance. It’s a perfect place to unwind and relax before jumping into the chaos of Manarola or Riommagiore.
The hostel has a wide range of activities available while you aren’t exploring Cinque Terre. Their most popular activities include cycling, snorkelling, diving, fishing, canoeing, and horse riding.
4. Cinque Terre d’Amare: Best Accomodation For Groups

- Located in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre
- Overall rating: 4.8/5
- Unbelievable location and view
- Full apartment fitting up to 5 people
Cinque Terre d’Amare is not considered budget, until you realise it fits up to 5 people. If you’re travelling in Cinque Terre with a group of friends, this apartment becomes cheaper per night than the cheapest hostel in the region.
The apartment is beautifully decorated and modern with free wifi, a fully equipped kitchen, lounge spaces and more. But that isn’t even the best part. The highlight of this apartment has to be the balcony view and the LOCATION.
Nestled on the side of the hill above Riommagiore. It is 600m from Cinque Terres most famous town and beach. Riommagiore is famous for good reason, and from the apartments balcony you have sprawling views of the picturesque colourful houses down to the emerald coastline.

5. Alla Marina Affittacamere: The Most Beautiful Accomodation

- Located in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre
- Overall rating 5/5
- Right in the centre of Riomaggiore
- Overlooking the coastline
- Cheap for what it’s worth
- Free breakfast
While this final option certainly isn’t for those on a tight budget, for what you get the price is low. Even one night here (splitting the cost with a friend) is bound to be one of the highlights of your trip.
This has to be one of the best located hotels in the world, 50 metres away from the marina in the centre of Riomaggiore, one of the most beautiful towns in the world. The hotel is beautifully designed, modern, and set in one of the towns traditional terrace buildings.
Though it’s definitely not the cheapest place to stay in Cinque Terre, I recommend even just one night in the hotel. Money comes back, but moments and memories don’t!

Best Town In Cinque Terre
After visiting Cinque Terre, there are 3 towns that stood out to me. My favourite town was Manarola, a highlight being the amazing cliff jumping rock just off the coast where you can leap off a number of heights into the emerald ocean!
My other favourites were Riomaggiore and Vernazza. Riommagiore is Cinque Terre’s most iconic village, and the inspiration for Disney’s ‘Luca’. The coastline as the best little swimming spot (and gelato) in the region.
And finally Vernazza, the colourful little village is incredibly charming, and quieter than Riomaggiore. It also has a pebbly beach where you can relax and swim in the Mediterranean sun.
Is Cinque Terre Expensive
Yes, Cinque Terre is expensive. That being said, staying in budget accomodation outside of the landmark towns and eating at local restaurants will greatly reduce cost.
How Many Days Do You Need In Cinque Terre
You can visit and enjoy Cinque Terre in as little as a day trip, but I recommend staying 3 days to experience all the towns and soak in it’s atmosphere.
Is Cinque terre Worth Visiting
Yes! Cinque Terre is absolutely worth visiting. After traveling the world for years, Cinque Terre remains one of my all time favourite places I’ve visited.

In conclusion, Cinque Terre has some beautiful hostels and budget accomodation options. And while budget accomodation is very limited in the area, It’s still possible for backpackers and budget traveler’s to enjoy this incredible part of the world!
